HAMELIN - THE FLAUTIST & THE RATS

The Pied Piper is the image of the 'Avenger' in the form of a magical element or divine justice of social actions: everything returns and whoever laughs last, laughs best. He is the paid mercenary who decides to take revenge when the 'people' break their pact. A clear allusion to treason within the system. The children that the piper takes away remind us of innocence and the future. Revenge strikes the wretch where it hurts the most.

A reinterpreted, provocative and scathing tale with a poetic and tenebrous staging through movement and music.

HAMELIN explores two images in his choreography: the faun (flute player) and the rats / politicians. The dance of the rodents (very contemporary!) And the asymmetric corporality of a magical and quarrelsome being, marginalized by the sewers: the magician HAMELÍN.

SYNOPSIS

HAMELIN starts from the lie (the NO-WORD) and the political, social and economic corruption inherent in the human being: the misery of having no values. Rats lead us to the plague of greed, depravity and the power of mainstream capitalism, but also to our selfishness. They are a sarcastic and ironic symbol of the times we live in. Everything can be bought and sold. Rats have taken to the streets and our lives.

HAMELIN starts from the lie (the NO-WORD) and the political, social and economic corruption inherent in the human being: the misery of having no values.

HAMELIN – The Flautist and the Rats is a Butoh Dance solo performed and directed by Orland Verdú (ORACLES Theatre), with live music by the violinist Pavel Amilcar and flute collaboration by Emanuel Nallín. The play is based on the story 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin', a European classic compiled by the Grimm brothers and develops a contemporary and poetic dramaturgy of the movement.
